The songs are just long enough that my 15 month old focuses her attention on the toy, and waits to push the button again. I love this product. The inner workings can be easily removed (easy if you're an adult, not easy if you're a baby), so that the exterior can be thrown in the washing machine. The relaxing songs interest her, and keep her attention, so that she relaxes and becomes ready for sleep in about 10 pushes (that's 5 minutes). She loves the toy, and if I forget it, she asks for it at bedtime. If I had to buy a gift for a baby for a shower or a birthday gift, I would pick this and a baby Bible Story book - a perfect combination.
It would be much better if it lasted for 5-10 minutes. This was good for that because we could turn the music off (although she turned it over and opened it up in the first 10 minutes and figured it out.). We got this to help our two year old to have something she could light up at night when she woke up. The packaging didn't say how long it lasted and if I had known it was that short we would have looked for something else. but the light only lasts for 30 seconds. She spends her time pushing it over and over instead of sleeping. The other choice lasted for 5 minutes but was light and music. With our munchkin co-sleeping with us, I didn't want the music wake up in the middle of the night.
We bought this glow worm when my daughter was a baby, and she is 4 and still loves this toy. She still plays it at bedtime every night when she is falling asleep. She has fallen to sleep with her hand on it while pushing it to play.I wish it had a mode where it played continually while she was smaller, but now she is older and its fun for her to push it each time.Yes, you do need to turn it over and switch it from demo mode. Its been a great durable toy that she still sleeps with.
the batteries are all ready dying. They love their glowies. My twins were given gloworms this Christmas. It's kind of a pain to dig the battery compartment out of the body. The face is soft, the body is huggable, it's easy for their little hands to hold and love. The only complaint I have is that after just a few weeks use- we brought the glowies up to bed after the new year (we'd forgotten them at Grandma's). As for the volume level, if you still feel it's to loud even on the lesser setting, try taping a piece of cloth over the speaker. Lots of kids toys are ridiculously loud, putting tape over the speaker has helped in our house.
He still has it and he's almost 4 yo. My grandson received a Gloworm when he was born and it was a lifesaver. I always buy it now as a gift for any newborn. It kept him busy for hours from the beginning. When you press the tummy, the face lights up as it plays different lullabies. It's perfect. The only drawback is that when I recently ordered it as a gift from amazon, the associated vendor didn't offer a giftcard.
